When a Child Attends FUMS,  It DOES Make a Difference!

First United Methodist School has always prided itself in its successful students, both while they are here at our Christian institution that began in 1967 and as we have released those students to both public and private middle and high schools.  We have many previous students who praise FUMS as the school that prepared them superiorly for further education, college, and in their careers. 

  • Shonte Fraser – 1995 FUMS alum was the first student to be awarded the Disney Dreamers and Doers award from Disney; FSU grad of 2005 with a BS in Chemical Science; Master of Health Management Systems (MHMS) from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA; Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Plymouth State University; and Medical Degree from The American University of Antigua College of Medicine in Antigua, West Indies. Currently, she is in New Jersey completing a family medicine residency. 
  • Celia Thacker - 1998 FUMS graduate, Osceola High School salutatorian, graduated cum laude from University of Florida School of Law, now a local attorney
  • Aimee Yocum - 2001 FUMS graduate, 2012 bachelor's degree from Palm Beeach Atlantic,majoring in ministry; current seminary student at Indiana Wesleyan Seminary
  • Past students who received President's Award from Middle School: Alyssa Bouaziz, Nicholas Coamey, Illiana Clark, Tyler Everett, William Kossol. Abigail Kratochvil, Gracie Overstreet, Madison Woodard.

  • Osceola Schools S.T.E.M. Winners for 2015 were FUMS graduates: David DeVore, Logan Burtis, Daren McCleary, and Kaitlyn Haslam.
  • Krystine Kossol - 2013 Middle School Valedictorian
  • FUMS Graduates, Tyler Everett, Abigail Kratochvil, and Madison Woodard, were 2015 Middle School Valedictorians at Neptune Middle School.
  • Tyler Pugh completed his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Operations Management from the University of Florida, May, 2012
  • Three former FUMS graduates were valedictorians of their classes: Alexander Miller - High School ; Bianca Rodriguez - High School; David De Vore - Middle School.
  • Many students from FUMS graduated High School with I.B. diplomas and top rankings in the I.B. program:  David De Vore ranked 6th class of 2016,  Walker Brooks & Will Steidley class of 2016
  • Among our alumni are veterinarians, geneticists, television reporters, journalists, school teachers, and business executives.
  • We currently have seven alumni in law school and one alumnus beginning her internship in family medicine.
  • Celeste Thacker – alum of the late 90’s currently at UF Law School
    Kimberly Evers – FUMS alum, certified K-6 teacher at FUMS!

  • Of the 5 top academic 2012 seniors at Osceola High School, four were graduates of First United Methodist School!

  • Approximately 80% of graduates from FUMS are in the top 10% of academic students graduating high school!
  • Seventy-five percent of FUMS graduates continue some form of higher education after completing high school.

We also want to celebrate the most recent accomplishments of our youngest FUMS alums:

  • Tyler Everett, Madison Woodard, and Abigail Kratochvil are 2015 8th grade valedictorians at Neptune Middle School. Note: Our FUMS students make up .022% of the current 8th graders at Neptune for 2015 (10 out of 450); yet they make up 50% of the valedictorians (3 out of the 6)!
  • Abigail and Joseph Wheeler, FUMS Alumnus were 2014 8th grade valedictorians at City of Life 
  • Luke Miller and Tyler Everett (7th grade at Neptune) both made First Team All American Scholars for Pop Warner (Top 2% in academics)
  • Walker Brooks, FUMS alumnus, was crowned Swimmer of the Year from Gateway High. He set dozens of school and county swimming records, while maintaining his academic excellence.
  • At the Osceola District Middle School Science Fair, FUMS alums were well represented. Six of our alumni competed at the district level, with Emily Froelich receiving first place in Medicine and Health, Sasha Haslam placing second in Bio Chemistry, and Sydney Burtis placing third in Zoology. Both Sydney and Sasha will go on to the State Regional Science Fair.
  • In 2014, Sasha Haslam placed fourth at the State Science Fair and won first place at the Regional History Fair and was a state finalist. In 2015, Kaitlyn Haslam won second place in chemistry at the Osceola Regional Science Fair and is one of 10 selected to compete at the state level. 
  • City of Life Christian Academy’s Science Fair, held January 31, 2014, 5 out of the 9 awards for 6th and 7th graders were FUMS alumni!
  • Osceola District STEM Scholar Award Winners: Kaitlyn Haslam, Darren McCleery, and Logan Burtis
  • First Place Winners in Osceola District History Fair, Junior Website Division: Kaitlyn Haslam and Katy Froehlich; Fist Place for Historical paper in the Junior Division: Davin Lanier. All will compete in the Florida State History Fair in Tallahassee.
